CLIMATIC CONDITIONS:

With the “Tropical Monsoon Rainforest Climate“, Assam is temperate (summer max. at 95–100 °F or 35–38 °C and winter min. at 43–46 °F or 6–8 °C) and experiences heavy rainfall and high humidity. … Spring (Mar–Apr) and autumn (Sept–Oct) are usually pleasant with moderate rainfall and temperature.

Best time to visit Assam is during the months of winters and summers, i.e.: November to March. Winters in Assam are chilling but enjoyable, and summers are delightful and refreshing. Try to avoid monsoon season, because heavy rains at times lead to inconveniences.

DAY 01: GUWAHATI AIRPORT – POBITORA (2 HRS DRIVE)

Arrive Guwahati Airport ……..your gateway to the beautiful North East!!!! Our local office representative shall meet & greet you @ airport & you shall be transferred to Pobitora. After check into the hotel. Later proceed to Pobitora wildlife Sanctuary Situated in the floodplains of the mighty Brahmaputra River, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the endangered one-horned-rhinoceros. Although quite small for a sanctuary, the density of rhinoceros in Pobitora is quite high. On a visit to the sanctuary, you can easily spot groups of rhinos roaming in the wilderness. You can even get very close to the rhinos during an elephant ride in the sanctuary. The swampy marshlands of Pobitora are not only ideal for rhinos but also provide shelter to other animals such as feral semi-wild buffalo, wild boar and jackal. Jeep safaris and elephant rides are a must do for every wildlife enthusiast in Pobitora. Don’t forget to get your binoculars along with your cameras as you would get plenty of opportunities to spot rare species of beautiful birds. Later back to hotel overnight in Pobitora.

DAY 02: POBITORA - GUWAHATI (2 HRS DRIVE)

Morning after Post Breakfast Drive to Guwahati.  On arrival check into the hotel later visit. Later visit KAMAKHYA TEMPLE - Kamrup Kamakhya has been the seat of the powerful tantrik cult in India. Situated atop the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, this temple is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas of the country. Rising to a modest height of 562 feet above the mighty river Brahmaputra, the hill on which the temple stands commands a magnificent view of the entire city. STATE ZOO - Spread over an area of 130 hectares, Assam State Zoo is the only zoo in India where a natural forest still exists. It is one of the major zoos of the country and boasts of a unique diversity of animal habitat. The botanical garden located within the same vicinity is called Guwahati’s green retreat. In the evening enjoy a 1-hour RIVER CRUISE over the river Brahmaputra from Panbazar Jetty (Optional cost). The longest river in India, the Brahmaputra, runs through the spectacular scenery of Assam and is an ideal introduction to river cruising in India. Overnight in Guwahati. DAY 03: GUWAHATI

Morning after breakfast visit Navagraha temple - dedicated to the nine planets in the solar system this temple was built by the ruler Rajeswar Singh in late 18th century AD. Also known as the Abodes of Surya, the Navagraha Temple or the temple of the nine celestial bodies is located in the south eastern part of Guwahati, on a hill by name Chitrachal. It is a center of astrological and astronomical research, Umananda temple -  was built in 1694 A.D. by the order of King Gadadhar Singh (1681- 1696), one of the ablest and strongest rulers of the Ahom dynasty. The temple is located on the Pea cock Island (as named by some poetic British Administrator) in the middle of the river Brahmaputra, Balaji Temple - dedicated to lord Balaji, this recently built temple is an example of modern architecture. The temple was made in a south Indian architectural style and is similar to Tirupati Balaji temple of South India, State Zoo - Spread over an area of 130 hectares, Assam State Zoo is the only zoo in India where a natural forest still exists. DAY 04: SUALKUCHI & HAJO EXCURSION

This picturesque village is situated on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra, about 32 kms from Guwahati. It is a home to a large number of cottage handloom industries for which it is also known as the "Manchester of Assam". Muga silk and Pat silk along with Eri silk and Endi cloth from this region is famous for its quality. Mekhela chadors and Gamosas made from these indigenous materials is in demand throughout Assam as well as other parts of India. Visitors can try on a traditional dress called the mekhela chador (women), churiya and thenga (men); learn of everyday life, local fishing, agricultural practices; brewing of local drinks; and of course take a tour of the silk weaving centers. It is interesting to watch the women folk engage in traditional fishing where the rod and reel is replaced by the jakoi (used to catch the fish) and khaloi (used to keep the fish). The populous waters of the village pond and beels (wetlands) supply year round fish to the rural community, which is a venerable part of the Assamese cuisine Sculptures of Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu, and the famous Ganesh Mandir, traditional religious institution called Namghar, and a cave at the Rakshasini Pah(Island in river Brahmaputra) are other attractions. After breakfast transfer to Guwahati airport to depart for onward destination.
