CLIMATIC CONDITIONS:

With the “Tropical Monsoon Rainforest Climate“, Assam is temperate (summer max. at 95–100 °F or 35–38 °C and winter min. at 43–46 °F or 6–8 °C) and experiences heavy rainfall and high humidity. … Spring (Mar–Apr) and autumn (Sept–Oct) are usually pleasant with moderate rainfall and temperature.

Best time to visit Assam is during the months of winters and summers, i.e.: November to March. Winters in Assam are chilling but enjoyable, and summers are delightful and refreshing. Try to avoid monsoon season, because heavy rains at times lead to inconveniences.

Due to the topographical diversity, the climate in Arunachal Pradesh ranges from sub-tropical to temperate depending upon the altitude.The regions in the lower belts of the state experience hot and humid climates, with a maximum temperature in the foothills reaching up to 40 °C (during the summer).

The climate of Meghalaya is generally mild. In August the mean temperature at Shillong (in the Khasi Hills) is in the low 70s F (about 21–23 °C); it falls to the upper 40s F (about 8–10 °C) in January.0

The Shillong area, with the highest elevations, experiences generally low temperatures. The maximum temperature in this region rarely goes beyond 28 °C (82 °F),[16] whereas sub-zero winter temperatures are common.

The town of Sohra (Cherrapunji) in the Khasi Hills south of capital Shillong holds the world record for most rain in a calendar month, while the village of Mawsynram, near Sohra (Cherrapunji), holds the record for the most rain in a year0

The beginning of winter is marked by a steep fall (almost 5 degree Centigrade) in temprature during December. January is the coldest month. In February, the temprature starts rising gradually. The monsoon lasts for five months from May to September with June, July and May, being the wettest months. The annual rainfall varies from 100 cm to over 300 cm.

DAY 01: GUWAHATI – SHILLONG (APPROX 3hrs drive)

Arrive Guwahati Airport / Railway Station……..your tour begins in the beautiful North East!!!! Our office representative shall meet & greet you @ airport / station & you shall be transferred to Shillong. Enroute visit UMIAM LAKE - more popularly known as Barapani, this is the biggest artificial lake in the State. Surrounded by sylvan hills and wrapped in the beauty of an assortment of green Khasi-pines and the azure blue skies is the majestic Umiam Lake. Developed upon the reservoir of the Umiam Hydro Electric Project, the Water Sports Complex provides a choice of row-boats, paddle-boats, cruise boats, sailing boats, water scooters and speed boats. If time permits, one can enjoy water sports activities here (Optional cost). Later arrive Shillong – ‘Scotland of the East’ &check into the hotel. Evening free for leisure & personal activities. DAY 02: SHILLONG – CHERRAPUNJEE - SHILLONG (Full Day Excursion)

Early morning after breakfast, proceed to CHERRAPUNJEE, blessed with many breathtaking views of nature in her pristine beauty with cool springs, mind soothing waves of thick green jungle foliage, gurgling mountain streams finding their way through rocks, enthralling milky white waterfalls leaping into deep gorges in a thunderous applause to the record-breaking rainfall that resounds through the valley. Cherrapunjee has the distinction of being the wettest place on Earth, having the highest recorded rainfall, year after year. Diverse your route to visit the Asia’s Cleanest Village MAWLYNNONG – Located in the East Khasi hills, this village is known for its ‘Cleanliness’ & it’s a community based eco-tourism initiative! The village offers picturesque natural beauty, a short trek to the LIVING ROOT BRIDGE at a neighbouring village Riwai. The village also offers a sight of natural balancing rock, a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock! Later continue your journey to Cherrapunjee. DAY 03: SHILLONG – BHALUKPONG (APPROX 6.30 hrs drive)

Morning post breakfast drive Tezpur. Enroute visit DON BOSCO MUSEUM - a unique venture of the Salesians of Don Bosco in North East India to develop expert facilities for the preservation and promotion of numerous beautiful and diverse indigenous cultures of the region. The Museum exhibits cultural artifacts thematically arranged from floor to floor in the different galleries along with excellent paintings depicting various aspects of the cultures of North East India forms the first and most visible aspect of DBCIC! On arrival check into the hotel & overnight stay at Bhalukpong. Highlight: - DON BOSCO MUSEUM.

DAY 04: BHALUKPONG – DIRANG (APPROX 4 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast drive to Bomdila .Enroute visit TIPPI ORCHID CENTRE – Arunachal Pradesh is known for its rich orchid flora and has more than 500 species of orchids. Check in Hotel on arrival at Dirang - north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh boasts of picturesque natural beauties with snow wrapped mountains, roaring rivers, lush green valleys and its huge collection of flora and fauna. It is very popular for its hot water springs, sheep rearing farms and apple orchards. The hot water springs are considered holy by some who travel to them for a dip. Evening at Leisure. DAY 05: DIRANG –TAWANG (APPROX 4.15 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast drive to Tawang. Enroute witness the snowcapped SELLA PASS at 14000 ft it is the second highest motor-able road in India and the JASWANT GARH MEMORIAL. Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee -Posthumous) of 4th Battalion Garhwal Rifles fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place. Check in Hotel on arrival at Tawang - The beautiful land of the Monpa tribes with the “GALDEN NAMGYEL LHATSE” Monastery - one of the largest Lamaseries of Mahayana sect in Asia .The birth place of the 6th Dalai Lama, the Monastery is 400 year old and is adorned with the 18 feet high statue of Lord Buddha. ‘The Land of Dawn-lit Mountains’ at 3500 mts gives you unparallel purity of nature. DAY 06: TAWANG

Morning after breakfast, visit the MONASTERY - The Tawang Monastery stands on the start of a hill, about 10,000 ft above sea level and has ravines in the south and west, narrow ridge on the north and a gradual slope on the east. Offers an imposing and picturesque view of the Tawang-Chu valley. The monastery appears like a fort from a distance, as if guarding the admirers in the wide valley below. Also visit the WAR MEMORIAL - a 40 foot high multi-hued memorial, has a structure constructed in stupa design. Dedicated to the martyrs of Sino-India War held in 1962, this memorial is nestled among beautiful peaks, which overlooks the Tawang-Chu valley. Popularly known as Namgyal Chorten, the memorial has names of 2,420 dead soldiers. Evening free for shopping. Overnight stay at Tawang Highlight: - Tawang Monastery.

DAY 07: BUM-LA visit

Early morning depart for BUM-LA pass. Located about 37 kms away from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border above 16,500 ft above sea level and often covered with heavy snow throughout the year. It is one of the most off-beat passes in the world and is also referred to as the pass from where Dalai Lama entered India escaping from Tibet. The road to Bumla is also a historical route, the Chinese army marched into India during the 1962 Sino-Indian war. In 2006, Bumla pass was re-opened to traders for the first time in 44 years. Traders from both sides of the pass were permitted to enter each other’s territories, in addition to postal workers from each country. On the Chinese side, the nearest major town Tsonajong is 43 Kms from Bumla border post. On return journey, you can bifurcate from the road to reach the beautiful SANGET-SAR LAKE (famously known as the Madhuri Lake, since actor Madhuri Dixit was shot here for the film KOYLA). Later return back to Tawang. Evening free for rest/personal activities. Overnight stay at Tawang. Highlight: Bum-la Pass (as per availability of Permit) & Madhuri Lake (Cost Not Included)

DAY 08: TAWANG – DIRANG

Morning after breakfast drive back to Dirang - Hooked in the amongst the mighty mountainous ranges of Himalaya, Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh is a mini paradise, with its Apple orchards, Buddhist gomphas and a magnificent view of the Kameng Valley. On arrival check into the hotel Evening free at leisure. Overnight stay at Dirang.

DAY 09: DIRANG – KAZIRANGA (Approx.6.00 hrs. drive)

Early morning after breakfast drive to Kaziranga. Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 for its unique natural environment KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK is situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam. It is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. Later on, arrival in Kaziranga, check into the hotel. Evening for leisure, overnight stay at Kaziranga.

DAY 10: KAZIRANGA SAFARI

Early morning go for ELEPHANT RIDE @ 5AM. This is one of the most enjoyed safari to explore the wide varieties of wildlife in the Kaziranga National Park. The vast area covered by the Elephant Grass can be best viewed when you are on an elephant's back. The elephant ride is best enjoyed in the early hours of dawn. The main attraction of it is one horned rhinoceros with wild buffalo, Elephant, tiger a variety of deer, Bear, Python, and prehistoric looking monitor lizard. The Kaziranga wildlife is also adorned with the crested serpent eagle, Pella's fishing eagle and Grey headed fishing Eagle with a number of other Bird species like the Jungle fowl, Bengal florican and water fowl, goose, a large number of pelicans, Black naked stork, Snake Bird and so on. Later back to resort for breakfast. Post lunch enjoy a thrilling afternoon JEEP Safari in the park with our expert Naturalist. Evening free at leisure. Overnight stay at Kaziranga. DAY 11: KAZIRANGA– GUWAHATI (APPROX 3 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast drive to Guwahati. On arrival check into hotel, later visit KAMAKHYA TEMPLE – Kamrup Kamakhya has been the seat of the powerful tantrik cult in India. Situated atop the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, this temple is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas of the country. Rising to a modest height of 562 feet above the mighty river Brahmaputra, the hill on which the temple stands commands a magnificent view of the entire city, NAVAGRAHA TEMPLE - dedicated to the nine planets in the solar system this temple was built by the ruler Rajeswar Singh in late 18th century AD. Also known as the Abodes of Surya, the Navagraha Temple or the temple of the nine celestial bodies is located in the south eastern part of Guwahati, on a hill by name Chitrachal. It is a center of astrological and astronomical research. In the evening enjoy the RIVER CRUISE over the river Brahmaputra (Optional cost). The longest river in India, the Brahmaputra, runs through the spectacular scenery of Assam and is an ideal introduction to river cruising in India. Overnight in Guwahati.
